France has 1,300 labor inspectors for 1.5 million companies and 15 million salaried employees. For more than 100 years, the labor inspection force has had the mission of enforcing the law in the business world. Observers and mediators of social conflicts, who are these inspectors without uniforms whose only weapon is the law? In a France shaken by globalization, what remains of their original mission? A year after the murder of two inspectors, what future lies in store for these civil servants? Following two inspectors for three months, this film describes the work of this professional force that straddles the 19th and 20th centuries and reveals the social reality for an overwhelming majority of salaried employees.
