Inside Indonesia's Sex Trade

Olivia Rousset travelled to Batam Island, Indonesia to show the illegal sex industry from the inside. The brothels are run by local mafia, with the apparent blessing of the local police. The director had to pose as a social worker to get access to the girls. Filming with a hidden camera she met ‘Lina’ and ‘Diana’, two fourteen-year-old girls who had been trafficked to Batam from their village in Madura and sold as sex slaves. Tragically they are two of thousands of children who were cheated and sold to brothels where they become indentured sex slaves caught in a cycle of debt, fear and shame. ‘Lina’ and ‘Diana’ are desperate to leave, but they are afraid, and don’t trust anyone. Some local social workers organize a daring rescue to get the girls out and back to their village.
