Il était une fois en Côte d'IvoireOnce Upon a Time in Ivory Coast
When the Old Man died, four men contended for his succession: the Heir, the Adopted Son, the General and the Adversary. Hearing out its major protagonists and their divergent versions, Once Upon a Time in Ivory Coast retraces the contemporary history of a country since the death of its founder, Félix Houphouët-Boigny, in 1993. Using a tragic, yet sardonic structure, the film puts into context the civil war between north and south, analyzed her as the outcome of a purely political process: the thirst for power and the refusal to give in under democratic conditions.
