Ikiru Tameni Koe wo AgeruCrying Out to Live
China is currently experiencing an explosion in the number of HIV sufferers, with an estimated 840,000 people believed to have contracted the virus. This figure is expected to reach epidemic proportions exceeding 10 millions in five years, making China's HIV population the second largest in the world. While the introduction of AIDS countermeasures has brought the issue to national attention, this also resulted in widespread discrimination against HIV infected patients. To squarely address this dire social problem, and in an attempt to win back their independence, a group of HIV patients is now speaking out. Their hopes, their dreams, daily battles and ardent desire to be accepted are showcased in the first overseas media coverage to convey the reality of the HIV/AIDS situation in China.
