Gérard Garouste, le passeur
Born in 1946, Gérard Garouste is a world-rank artist, whose work has been exhibited in New York, in particular, at the Holly Solomon gallery, at Leo Castelli’s and Sperone and at the Zeitgeist show in Berlin. For more than two years, Joël Calmettes filmed this artist whom he had long admired in secret. Shot in his workshop, this encounter became the chronicle of the genesis of a new cycle of paintings. A unique occasion to discover the unsuspected world of a modern painter who draws his inspiration from the inmost depths of painting and classical literature. The chance, too, to assess the commitment of a man who unceasingly battles against the established truths and dogmas.
