Farinelli. Show Must Go On
The legendary opera singer Farinelli was the idol of kings and music lovers of XVIII century Europe. After the death of this most famous castrato, it seemed that the world would never again hear an authentic performance of bel canto music. Today there are several unique vocalists, who sing as high as castrati did, but without being such. On Farinelli’s 300th birth anniversary, world’s five brightest contratenors appear together on the same stage. Did Farinelli regret becoming a unique music instrument? How do modern contratenors develop such high voices? Is it a gift or a punishment for those who have such a voice?
