Exit
We don’t know the day or the hour. When sickness comes, with its pain and decay, we are face to face with death. The time remaining seems terrible and harrowing. How can we spare ourselves and those closest to us that agonizing slow death? Switzerland is the only country in the world where associations like Exit legally provide services of assisted suicide for those at the end of their life. For more than 20 years now, volunteers have helped the ill and handicapped to a more dignified death. In this documentary, attendants and attendees look death head on. Not as a taboo, nor as an unacceptable end, but as a liberation. In a society that tends to control everything, this film raises a deeply personal question: Isn’t choosing one’s death our ultimate liberty?
