Enrico Macias, le chant de la mémoire

A man of many identities, Enrico Macias is Jewish, Algerian and French. But he is first and foremost a man who sings of life as he has encountered it, as both witness and protagonist. Because besides being a popular singer, Enrico Macias is politically engaged for peace, historical remembering, and a better future. And that is what his music has always expressed. Through the thread of concerts, interviews and archival images, this fascinating documentary deciphers the man and his commitments through his music: the Arabic-Andalusian music of his childhood in Constantine, the music that he invented when, obliged to flee Algeria during the war, he meets with the lack of understanding of the metropolitan public, and the music of his maturity, a precursor of the rai generation.
