Eliane
Paris 1960. Eliane, a young woman approaching 40, runs the Hebdo news weekly. She shares her life with Michel Decours, a man bursting with ideas, who is 12 years older than her. The paper is their life. Eliane and Michel love to sniff out events. They are young, brilliant, and attractive and know all the political, artistic and cultural scenes. This is a time when France is sheathed in its traditions and mired in the Algerian War, but is beginning to open to the world and modernity. Eliane commits Hebdo to the combats of the period and the paper becomes the reflection of all the innovative trends that make society progress. Eliane thinks that woman’s liberation is the great battle of her generation. Modernity is on the move and Hebdo will be its seismograph. But she discovers that Michel is moving away from her and is cheating on her. At the same time, she learns that her 17-year-old daughter is pregnant. She refuses abortion. On top of this comes the political scandal: the government, concerned by the influence of Hebdo, is hatching a plot to discredit Michel Decours. The paper is in danger.
