Ein ganz gewöhnlicher JudeA Very Ordinary Jew
For the journalist Emanuel Goldfarb, an invitation to speak to a school class about being a Jew becomes a reckoning with his life as a German Jew—or a Jew in Germany…? In fact, all he wants to do is write a polite letter to the teacher declining the invitation. But in his efforts to justify his decision, Goldfarb finds himself arguing with a country in which—according to Goldfarb—a Jew will never again be able to take his existence for granted. A Very Ordinary Jew is a monologue, an unusual format for a TV movie, but it is not simply a litany of judgements or expectations. It is, above all, a dream-role for a single actor.
