Djamel Allam, oiseau minéralDjamel Allam, Mineral Bird
Born in Bejaia, Kabylia, Djamel Allam belongs to the youth excited by independence but also steeped in western culture. He arrived in France at the age of 21, with a stock and store of traditional Algerian, Arabic and Kabyle songs, but also French poetry, that of Prévert and the Surrealists. He first found minor employment at the Théâtre du Gymnase in Marseilles, then enjoyed his first success in the Paris cabaret before becoming, a few years later, one of the most famous Algerian singers. This is a portrait of the artist, which follows him to the locations of his life, at home in Paris, then Algiers and Bejaia, and on-stage in Toulouse.
