Die Silberhöhe
Sixteen years after the fall of the Wall, East Germany has still not become part of the West. The promised prosperity has come to nothing and two million people have since left the country. Industry is bankrupt, unemployment has soared and villages and towns are being abandoned. Since the depopulation is set to continue into the future until eventually more than half the population will have left, empty houses are now being demolished. The documentary profiles the residents left behind in Die Silberhöhe, a suburb of the once flourishing industrial town of Halle. Their past is being destroyed and they have not yet managed to secure a place in the new world. A film about the legacy of the DDR.
