Catholic boarding schools are part of an educational system which evidently had far-reaching influence through the whole society, and which—despite all the repressive methods employed and the often harsh attempts to instil Catholic faith into young boys—managed to develop critical and creative members of the elite, especially in the sphere of the arts. Today, when this type of educational institution is dying out and will soon be replaced almost completely by others, this documentary examination offers a critical reflection upon it. Several men who have reached outstanding achievement despite—or perhaps precisely because of—their education in a Catholic boarding school agreed to be interviewed.
