Chronique d'une ville occupéeTales of an Occupied Town
This documentary deals with the German occupation of France and uses the beautiful town of Saumur on the banks of the river Loire as an example of what happened during this period. It shows life and death in a typical French town during the years of the occupation, the joys and the anxieties of the inhabitants, their stories of resistance versus collaboration and the wait-and-see strategy they adopted in order to survive. It dispels the “good French bad French” version of events, and dismisses the two views of the French being either resisters or collaborators.
