Calypso at Dirty Jim's
Calypso is the soul of the island of Trinidad. For the past three centuries, its performers have been the troubadours of the Creole world. Unsurpassed in the art of improvisation, allergic to all forms of censorship, the Calypsonians sing about slavery, liberation, and daily life, not to mention love, with a hefty measure of sex and humor. Hypnotic melodies and everlasting hits, to the rhythms of which bodies are released and sing of the joys and tragedies of an entire people. This film retraces the history of these get-togethers with this generation of artists in the centers of Calypso and the stage of the famous Dirty Jim’s Club, especially reconstituted for the shooting of this film.
