Breaking the Rules
Breaking the Rules is a cinematic journey hightlighting post-war American counterculture from the Beat years to the beginnings of Hip Hop. Rarely screened archive footage, eyewitness interviews and striking locations hightlight this journey into the world of the Beat Generation in New York and San Francisco, onward to what became the Hippie movement, then right up to the embryonic rumblings of Hip Hop in the Bronx. And yet, despite the radical and even revolutionary nature of these movements, the omnipresent pressure of commercialisation took its role.
