Arthur Rimbaud, Chypre poste restante
Shot in the Ardennes, Cyprus, Alexandria, the Mediterranean coast, and Mount Troodos, this film recreates the travel log of Arthur Rimbaud at a crucial moment in his life, when he decided to give up literature to join working society and make himself more useful. The soundtrack, composed of letters Rimbaud wrote home from Cyprus, provides the film’s first narrative structure. Landscapes of the past and present, the present-day testimonies of poets and French and Cypriot historians, and archives, provide invaluable elements that allow us to analyze this little-known episode in the life of the author of A Season in Hell and evaluate the place he continues to occupy in the collective imagination of the island.
