Äraoldud päevade summaThe Sum of Absent Days
Eduard Tubin is a composer who led two parallel existences in two incompatible countries: he grows up and develops into a composer in Estonia, in the 1920s, where he leaves a major imprint on the local music scene. He fled to Sweden, and all of a sudden, he is an unknown composer in a foreign country. Yet he does not have to fear of being arrested anymore. Why do the symphonies gradually crumple into more and more introverted, pain-frozen masses of sound—whilst the composer himself walks in an apparently mellow mood about Stockholm? The symphonies constitute the different chapters in the film which features interviews with several noted musical figures. Different layers of life, often incongruous, impacting on each other visibly or invisibly.
