A Midsummer Night's Dream
In a forest near Athens, fairies and mythical creatures let themselves give vent to their romantic passions. Quarrels, magical powers and mix-ups provide the narrative line of this ambiguous work that blends realism, irony and poetic fantasy, magnificently set to music by Benjamin Britten in 1960. Premiered in 1992 at the Aix-en-Provence Festival, then staged at the Lyon Opera and revived several times in Europe, A Midsummer Night’s Dream is an enchanting reverie in a first rate production.
