2 Iris
A solar, lunar eyeball, a circular diaphragm that opens and shuts to let light through. At first a dazzling variation on the circle, this video by Philippe Decouflé, based on a recent show of his in Japan, is an elegant, peripatetic series of danced and filmed tableaux. Images and bodies mingle in a sometimes cosmic, sometimes comic daydream which takes us from landscape to landscape, from the urban to the pastoral. The kaleidoscope of lights, videos, sound and music never eclipses the power of the dancing. Changes of scenery, human tenderness, heady desire: once again, Decouflé has us share the grave and cheerful wonder of his gaze on the world.
