Viols sur ordonnance ?
In eastern Congo, women of all ages are raped with a savagery and cruelty never seen before. In 1994, two million Rwandan Hutu refugees set up camp in this region of the Congo, a neighboring country. Among them were the perpetrators of the Tutsi genocide, its planners, and the Interhahamwes, their machete-armed militia, determined to spread as much pain as death. Ten years later, amid the indifference of the international community, thousands of them still live in the forests of Kivu with their weapons, their rage and their despair. Today, these Interhahamwes continue to plunder, terrorize and rape. Most tragically, the epidemic of rape has spread to other camps, even affecting civilians, and is reaching other regions of the country. Myriam Lanotte recorded and filmed women, young girls and children, which raises many questions: Why are we witnessing such inhuman behavior in this part of the world? How can we stop it? Will justice be done one day? In the meantime, the International Court of Justice, which will soon begin tracking down those responsible for these war crimes, as well as the Congolese men and women, is fighting for the victims to step forward and file complaints. Others are trying to heal their atrocious, humiliating wounds, and other stills are listening to them and giving them material support.
