Varosha, une ville fantômeVarosha, a Ghost City
Since 1974, Turkey has occupied the northern part of Cyprus, establishing a state not recognized by the UN and the international community. In the east, the modern resort of Varosha, which lies on the outskirts of the medieval port town of Famagusta, is off-limits to its own citizens. Plundered and abandoned for the past 30 years, the city has gone to sleep, still intact in the hearts of Cypriots. Forbidden to men and cameras, this documentary allows us to discover Varosha. The director enters this ghost town and brings it back to life via memories, history, poetry and archives. Through this emblematic city, the people we meet tell us of a still-intense feeling of revolt, a deep emotion and a genuine desire to fairly restore the unity of an homeland with the Turkish Cypriots.
