Urgence au Darfour
Darfour is a province in eastern Sudan which has been in the midst of a serious humanitarian crisis since 2003. According to the United Nations, 1.2 million persons have left their villages to escape violence. Some 50,000 people are said to have died. The conflict is between the armed rebel movements in Darfour and the government in Khartoum. The central authorities practice a scorched earth policy by taking it out on the African civilian population caught in this infernal cycle. The UN voted a resolution giving Khartoum 30 days in which to allow NGO's access to the refugee camps and to disarm the militias. The contract was only partially met as our special correspondents found when they visited the Kalma camp and the rebel sector in which the civilian flight continues.
