Una strana vacanza 1943A Kind of Holiday 1943
Denys Simmons and George Hervey-Murray tell the story of how they escaped from a train transporting them from an Italian POW camp in Sulmona to Germany after the Italian Armistice of September 8th, 1943, when the Italian Armed Forces disbanded and their former allies, the Germans, suddenly turned enemy. They describe how they were helped by the Italians, who risked their lives and property in doing so. Denys and George return to Meta, the small isolated village in the mountains where they had spent about three weeks in 1943, for the first time after sixty years... Other former POWs, meeting in Central Italy to commemorate the 60th anniversary of the Armistice, relate their own similar experiences.
