I Had a Dream

April 28, 2004. Hassan, Fatuma and their two children arrive in Salt Lake City, Utah. They are Somali Bantus. For the past 13 years they had survived in refugee camps in Kenya. And then one day, America decided to take them in. Considered an endangered minority, the 13,000 Bantus of Somalia were granted priority refugee status by the State Department. They could all emigrate to the United States. This film records how one family dealt with this unique experience of voluntary emigration. Hassan and his family represent an entire people abandoning its roots to become part of a very different culture.
