Új EldorádóNew Eldorado
In Rosia Montana, Romania, Europe’s biggest open cast gold mine is to be opened. A Canadian company has planned to build a tailing pond to store the sludge, containing cyanide for extracting gold, a hundred times bigger than the one which caused the catastrophe in Hungary in 2000. Inhabitants of four villages should leave their home. People are being moved into new houses. Their former homes are to be destroyed. Terrain preparation have already begun even though Rosia Montana Gold Corporation has not even been granted permission from the Romanian government to initiate the project. Most of the people wish to stay. The mountains surrounding the villages, would be destroyed as well in 15 years. There will be gold. Only this beautiful village, Rosia Montana will disappear from the face of the earth.
