The Potala Palace
This film introduces us to Qiangbagesang, a lama who has lived in Potala Palace for the past 60 years. His person embodies the history and culture of Tibet as well as the history of the Palace, built on the Red Hill in the valley of Lhassa, at altitude of 12,100 ft. Made up of the White Palace and the Red Palace and auxiliary buildings, Potala, built in the 7th century during the reign of King Songtsan Gampo and rebuilt by the Fifth Dalai Lama, symbolizes the Tibetan Buddhist theocracy. The beauty and originality of its architecture, its rich decoration and harmonious place in a landscape of great beauty contributes to its historical and religious interest. This film also attempts to survey the difficulties of existence and the historical and cultural achievements of Zizang (Tibet) and the region’s relationship between past (History), present (existence) and future (development).
