Soukhoumi rive noire
The destiny of a small forgotten region: the Republic of Abkhazia, and its capital, Sukhum. Tucked away in the fringes of the Caucasus, on the shores of the Black Sea, Abkhazia is a state that doesn’t exist, a self-proclaimed republic born of an absurd war against Georgia in 1992-93. This film focuses on four individuals, exiles of Sukhum, or survivors amid its ruins, and looks back at the heyday of what was then the Soviet Riviera and the realities of a forgotten conflict... How does one live for 10 years in a region that is neither at peace nor at war? The film seeks to answer this question, and to understand, through these four lives, the meaning of exile, loss, forgetfulness, and the nostalgia for a time that will not come again.
