Soraida
Soraida is a Palestinian woman who lives in Ramallah. In her neighborhood, the women don’t all wear veils, the men don’t all rattle off empty political slogans, the young people don’t all have bombs strapped to their belts, and, like anywhere else in the world, the children play with dolls. In Ramallah, life goes on despite the curfews and the checkpoints that confine the people in a bar-less cage. Soraida invites us into her world and that of her family and neighbors. Through her simple everyday actions — watering the plants in the garden, going to work, hanging out the laundry — we discover the worst thing about living under a state of siege: the loss of control over one’s own life.
