A portrait of Vera, a friendly old woman who lives in a remote village in Belarus. Widowed for years, she shares her time between her geese, her bread and the distillation of her own schnapps. Well-known for its magic powers, her brew might explain the early death of the men of the village. When German soldiers threatened to destroy the village during WWII, Vera made a deal with them, exchanging her homebrew for the well-being of the village.
