Russlands vergessene KoloniePeople of the Marsh
Time seems to have come standstill in Seda, a small mining town in northern Latvia. Founded in 1952 and originally inhabited by an immigrant labor force from different states of the former USSR who came to work on the extraction of peat discovered in the swamps, it today is unlike any other city in the country. It has the atmosphere of an old Russian town. The imposing yellow houses reflect a certain Stalinian classicism. And Russian is the language one hears most spoken. By chance, during a trip to northern Latvia, the filmmaker came across this little remote and mysterious island. This documentary is the result of three years spent with the citizens of this community.
