Preto e BrancoBlack and White
A great proportion of Brazilians are of African descent. However the notion of racial democracy widely held by many until recently have now been questioned and demystified… Preto e Branco portrays eight characters whose life-stories are intertwined forming a non-linear narrative flow that try to capture the Brazilian racial enigma. Among the characters are a samba dancer who married a European, a white racist, an African priestess who married a “white” man and a gangster rapper. Interviews include wide and representative views from Brazilian society – scholars, artists and politicians on the race issue. They try to answer a fundamental question: is Brazil a nation of great hope for human coexistence or is this concept a hypocritical myth?
