Prenez mon cœur et mes roses
The story of a little rose seller in Colombia who was lucky enough to land a lead role in a movie. Her film was selected for Cannes and other international festivals, where she won three acting prizes. At 15, Leidy Tabares was leading a fairy tale life. Everything seemed rosy and yet she never received other movie offers. Disappointed, she returns to the lower depths of Medellin, got mixed up in a murder and is now serving a 26-year-prison term. This documentary retraces the chaotic life of a young girl, now aged 22, with two children. How did she come to this? How does she cope with prison life? What does she think of her movie experience? Who is to blame for her ruin? Director Victor Gaviria, the director of The Rose Seller, doesn’t shy away from his own autocritique: should he have put Leidy in front of the cameras in the first place? And what about the other actors in the movie, all street children, nine of whom were later murdered? A modern, universal fable about the difficulty of escaping your environment and fate.
