Piré Mard va baghé sangui ashThe Old Man and His Stone Garden
Many years ago, at dawn, in the middle of a barren desert southeast of Iran in the province of Kerman, a deaf and dumb shepherd witnessed the fall of a meteor a few hundred meters away from him. He approached it in awe and waited for the blazing stone to cool down. He put the heavy stone on his shoulder and dragged it near his tent with earnest attempt. He dug a hole in the earth and placed a dry tree in it. He cut a piece of the telephone wires near the road and passed it through the hole in the stone and hung the stone from to the branch of the dried tree with love and respect. For the past 50 years, he has gathered more stones with holes to honour and pay gratitude to the meteorite which he regards as a "Celestial Gift". He has planted more dry trees in the ground and has hung the stones from them creating a Stone Garden: a magnificent piece of art. This 90-year-old artist is called Darvish Khan Esfandiarpour, who is still passionately expanding and ornamenting his Stone Garden with a special kind of faith. Each tree personifies a man or a bittersweet memory from his past. Only the old man knows the secret behind the creation of each of them. This film is a portrayal of the life of Darvish Khan and his family.
