Paulette Nardal
In Martinique, there was something scandalous about asserting your black African roots, and this right up to the mid-20th century. Paulette Nardal made her mark at a time when one didn’t yet speak of Negritude. At the same time she prefigured the Martinican feminist movement. The film looks at the life and career of this woman of letters, the first black journalist in Paris. As co-founder of the "Revue du Monde noir" she was responsible for obtaining recognition for black culture in inter-war France, and was a cultural intermediary between the Harlem Renaissance writers and francophone authors such as Maran, Césaire and Senghor.
