Paolo Borsellino
The chief carabinier is murdered in a Palermo street while investigating criminal activities of the Sicilian mafia clans. Judge Chinnici decides to pursue the inquiry. His colleagues, Paolo Borsellino, Giovanni Falcone, and police captains Montana and Cassarà, go to work with the utmost discretion. The investigation quickly leads to the arrest of two French chemists involved with the mafia in a drug ring between Turkey and Italy. Hundreds are arrested and the judges manage to conduct a “maxi-trial." But Montana and Cassarà are murdered and Falcone and Borsellino must go into hiding in Sardinia to continue their work. At the end of the trial, 700 people are indicted. Ten months later, Borsellino has become prosecutor in Marsala. Giovanni Falcone, who continues his investigations into the relations between the Mafia and the United States, is appointed public prosecutor of the anti-mafia pool. But he is killed in a bombing before he can take his functions. With his colleague dead, Borsellino decides to carry on in his place, knowing full well that he’s next on the list.
