Orfeu
February 2004: premiere of Orphée, an opera sung in Occitan and French by the poet Bernard Manciet, with music by Jean-Claude Audoin. The hell into which Manciet’s Orpheus descends and where Eurydice enjoys being is our modern-day consumer society. Manciet posits poetry against the everyday barbarism of supermarkets, this world of illusions in which we lose ourselves. The film includes scenes from the opera and a conversation between Manciet, director Gilbert Tiberghien and singer Mathieu Dubroca about the work, the Occitan language, our age and our world.
