Monsieur Bing et l'Art nouveau
Siegfried Bing’s vision what that of a unified style of decorative art, an “Art nouveau” that granted an entirely new place to interior decorating. A style that combines elegance, floral linearity, subtle blends of color and which was conducive to the integration of neo-impressionism, symbolism and other movements of the 20th century in a harmonious, ornamental ensemble. The film restores Bing to the role he played in the spread of Japanese Art in Europe. It examines his close links with painters, in particular the Nabis. His ability to weave close relations with artists highlights his undeniable talent for cultivating an international visual language, embracing all the arts and revealing his commitment to the harmony of style and the universality of all the arts.
