Mathilde
This film is the record of an encounter: the encounter and exchange between two arts, cinema and dance. Mathilde Monnier invites us to see how dance encroaches on life, on thought, on one’s self-awareness. Dance is there, close up, waiting for us to come to it to realize that it has always been there, ready. Filming dance means first joining in the dance. Capturing the work in progress, the emerging movement. Mental movements born in the spectator and transmitted by Mathilde’s work. At first it resembles a falling back, a withdrawal into solitude. But in Mathilde’s work, this ordeal of solitude leads to the group, to collective collaboration, to that place made possible by an ensemble.
