Mary Shelley

In 1816, 19-year-old Mary Shelley wrote Frankenstein, the first science fiction novel. She died in 1851 without ever realizing that she had given birth to one of the great myths of western culture. Forgotten for more than a century, she remains little known to the public at large. But the interest of Mary Shelley’s life is even greater than her masterpiece: it was liberated, avant-gardist and full of spectacular events. Where does fiction end and truth begin? That’s the question this documentary raises as it gives us an unprecedented portrait of one of history’s great neglected personalities.
