Marrabenta Stories

The sound of the Marrabenta, Mozambique’s traditional folk music. Young Mozambican musicians, who play jazz, funk and hip-hop, join the Mabulu group, made up of older men who play Marrabenta. This encounter born of the association of different musical styles leads to a South African tour which is like a return to roots for each of the musicians involved, as well as a reconnaissance trip through the country. When you think of Mozambique’s colonial war of the past 50 years and the natural disasters this country has endured, the mere fact of seeing these images and hearing these sounds of peace is a moment of intense emotion.
