Les Réquisitions de Marseille
Who has ever heard of the experiment in which 15 Marseilles-based businesses were requisitioned from 1944 to 1948? It’s not everyday that 15,000 workers are directly involved in managing their company and even making major profits. In the company of historian Robert Mencherini, the last surviving actors of this adventure, among them Raymond Aubrac, who was as the time the Commissioner of the Republic for Marseilles, relive this unusual adventure and return to the scene. In the social and popular ferment of the Liberation, they devised a kind of “participatory management,” a democratic model of labor organization in business. The film examines the memory of this social experiment, which sixty years later, still echoes with contemporary debates.
