Les Deux rives
Seen as a release for some, a defeat for others, the end of the Algerian War left deep scars on both sides. Forty years after, when reference is made to 1962, the image that comes most to mind is that of the settlers repatriated from Algeria with their separations and heartbreak. But contrary to general assumptions, some Algerian French — the “pieds-noirs” — stayed in Algeria. Despite the tragic events that have traumatized the country in recent years, they are still there.
