Les Aventuriers de la République
French Parliament has existed for a little more than two centuries. It has seen several thousands of MPs, some of whom have found a place in history. Others, less well-known, displayed courage and determination in fulfilling their popular mandate. These officials elected by universal suffrage were at first the guarantors of the workings of the Republican institutions, with the highs and lows typical of all human institutions, but always in respect of the democratic tradition. Among them, some were original and highly colorful figures in the life of the Palais-Bourbon. In the hushed world of “national representation,” it was the audacity, the outbursts, and adventures of these picturesque personalities that helped the advancement of the republican ideal.
