Les Amantes
Les Amantes: the romantic adventures of Brigitte and Paula, two factory workers in the harsh, rural world of Austrian Styria, where the only possible escape is through men. Seeking a future, they only consider romance and marriage as a way out. Day after day, Brigitte the “good example,” and Paula, the “bad example,” fashion their own destiny. In a pastiche of the sentimental novel, Elfriede Jelinek wields ruthless irony as she dissects an Austria filled with good intentions. Quickly, a comedy of calamity unfolds.
