Le Sport ou la vie

Sports to the Death

Is too much sport dangerous for your health? Are athletes pushed into abusing their bodies by the excessive media attention given to their profession? We used to say that sports was good for your health. What if this were no longer true or worse, entirely misleading? Beyond the question of doping, however, this documentary looks at the biotechnology defining new horizons in sport: the athletes body itself could be modified. Excessive media coverage and invaluable commercial interest in everything to do with sports might well lead to an inhuman use of the body. Has sports become a "religion of the excess" as Pierre de Coubertin thought? A number of athletes bear witness : German Olympic champion Frank Busemann, French soccer player Emmanuel Petit, or the great Edwin Moses.
