Le Silence des rizièresThe Silence of the Ricefields
Mai was born in Indochina in 1954, somewhere in the jungle of North Vietnam, occupied at the time by the Vietminh troops. Her mother is Vietnamese. Her father is French and a former resistance fighter. As a cadre in the Communist party, he was dispatched by the Party’s Central Committee to Indochina to fight alongside Ho-Chi-Minh. The family only returned to France in 1960, after six years underground in Eastern Europe. Since her youth, Mai has never stop dwelling on her father’s story; he continues to remain silent about his mission in Indochina. On the furthermost bounds of Mai’s uprooting and her mother’s memories of a trip to Vietnam, we find the shadow fighters associated with the struggle against this “filthy war”.
