Le Réveil d'Apollon
The Apollo Gallery at the Louvre Museum boasts a magical, monumental setting. 200 ft. long and 50 ft. high, it juxtaposes paintings, sculptures and gilt ornamentation to celebrate Louis XIV as the Sun god, Apollo. This film was shot over a two-year period during the restoration of the Gallery. It explores its history with restorers, revealing the figures suspended from the vault, the sylphids and atlanteans. As we go behind the scenes, we witness the rebirth of the Apollo Gallery and are shown what no one will ever see again.
