Las Cajas EspanolasThe Spanish Boxes
It shows the odyssey to save the Spanish art treasure during the 1936-1939 Civil War. Thousands of paintings, sculptures and other extremely valuable pieces of art were exposed to the dangerous circumstances of a merciless war. The treasures of El Prado and El Escorial were the core of a collection of irreplaceable art pieces which travelled from Madrid to Valencia, from Valencia to Barcelona and from Barcelona to Geneva under constant bombing. When they got back to Spain, once the Civil War was finished, it could be verified that thanks to the care of the people in charge of making such important work none of the countless pieces were damaged. This documentary shows thoroughly that adventure by means of archive materials, often unpublished, and also by supporting sequences filmed for that purpose.
