La Parola "Mafia"

"Mafia", More Than Just a Word

Once upon the time, people were scared only to utter that awesome word : Mafia. Nowadays, we teach our own children to call it by its name. The woman speaking is Rita Borsellino. She’s addressing an audience of children at the Rivoli elementary school, near Turin. The sister of the judge killed 12 years ago, on July 19th, 1992, during the bloody terroristic attack of Via D’Amelio in Palermo, answers questions - children always ask very direct questions - and leads her young audience back into the memories of those days, where Provenzano and his picciotti (hanger-on) tortured and killed their victims. Alongside with pictures drawn from the archives and accompanied by the Sicilian music of “Agricantus”, this documentary leads a survey on the well known “religiousness” of the Mafia-people.
